\u201cFrom garage workshop to the entire world<\/strong>\u201d:<\/em>\u00a0in a nutshell, that sums up the history of Fanti Packaging. Now a small multinational, the company was established in Bologna (Italy) at the end of the 1940s (1948<\/strong>) from a far-sighted idea by its founder,\u00a0Giorgio Fanti<\/strong>. During the Second World War, the Americans left some food for the Italians, including cans of meat that remained empty on the ground: Giorgio Fanti collected them and had the intuition to give them a second life, converting them into packaging for the chemical industry.<\/p>\n

This was the period during which the American troops were stationed in Italy following the country\u2019s liberation from Nazi occupation during the Second World War. As they made their way through the nation, US soldiers handed out food to the Italians, including\u00a0cans of meat<\/strong>. While their contents were enthusiastically consumed to appease empty stomachs, the cans were often left abandoned on the ground. What\u00a0Giorgio Fanti<\/strong>\u00a0did was pick them up, planning to give them\u00a0a second life<\/strong>, which he did in his garage at \u00a0Via Lino, n.8, where \u2013 with the help of a lathe and a few tools \u2013 he upcycled them into paint cans for paint shops. That was how the\u00a0Giorgio Fanti S.p.A.<\/strong>\u00a0adventure, laying the foundations for the great family group that is now Fanti Packaging.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The positive response to Giorgio Fanti \u2018s upcycling hunch quickly led to forays into other areas. So, he then cleared all the empty food cans from the stocks left over from the war and turned these into paint cans too, until he was finally able to\u00a0purchase his first pack of tinplate<\/strong>, the raw material he needed but still from stocks of wartime leftovers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

1952 marked a milestone in the company\u2019s journey from development to consolidation. It was this year that Fanti purchased its\u00a0first automatic machine<\/strong>\u00a0for assembling tinplate cans. These were key years for Fanti Packaging, which began looking beyond national borders and focusing on exports. The acquisition of a majority share in\u00a0I.C.M. Industria Contenitori Metallici<\/strong>\u00a0dates back to 1990, when the company \u2013 based in Montechiarugolo (Parma, Italy) and specialising in the production of tapered tinplate buckets \u2013 joined the group. It now trades under the name Fanti I.C.M. An acquisition that marked the first step towards the expansion of the range and towards development through new experiences and leadership positions in new geographical areas.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

G.I.I \u2013 Gruppo Italiano Imballaggi<\/strong>\u00a0was founded in 1999 in Romania and began producing pots in a factory located in Bucharest. Now known as\u00a0Fanti Romania G.I.I.<\/strong>, it was the first real link to Eastern Europe.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Putting its production and commercial expertise to ever greater use, Fanti built a European network. In 2007, a sales partnership forged with Blechwarenfabrik Limburg GmbH \u2013 one of Europe\u2019s leading manufacturers of tinplate packaging for the main line led to the foundation of\u00a0ICE\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 Innovative Canmakers Europe<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

As it acquired an ever more extensive market presence, Fanti began expanding its production range through, among other actions, a series of targeted acquisitions.\u00a0Plastic packaging\u00a0<\/strong>marked the next milestone in the company\u2019s production history. Fanti acquired the Verni family\u2019s share and established\u00a0P. Cans S.r.l.<\/strong>\u00a0to specialise in the production of\u00a0plastic buckets and pails.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
